Mel B got wet at the MGM Grand for her birthday

WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

THE EX-DANCING WITH THE STARS and ex-Peep Show dancer Mel B celebrated her birthday last week at WET REPUBLIC, the ultra-pool party at the MGM Grand. That’s right, hundreds of people paid a cover charge just to say they shared chlorine with Scary Spice ... Now that’s scary.

KIMO’S VEGAS BEST MAN TIP: There’s a new e-book called Topless Vegas that’s an up-to-the-minute guide to the sexy side of Las Vegas. Inside you’ll find reviews of every topless and nude club, erotic revue and “European-style” pool in town - and tricks (er, tips) that locals use to get the most bang for their buck. Get the link for more details at http://www.KimosVegas.com.

THE CARNIVAL of Cuisine at the Venetian and The Palazzo showcases the very best in gourmet and casual cuisine, and features cooking demos and tastings from nine James Beard Award-winning chefs, including Chef Luciano Pellegrini, Executive Chef Zach Allen, Executive Chef James Boyer, Chef de Cuisine Hiroo Nagahara and Executive Chef Peter Woo. Tickets for the Aug. 15 feast cost $50.

SOUNDING LIKE an ad from Craigslist, the head honcho at the MGM Mirage says they will not be selling any more casinos on the Strip because of the “lowball offers” they’ve been getting ...

COULD THE “We ran out of money” $3 billion stalled Fontainebleau become Steve Wynn’s encore to Encore, or part of Caesars Empire, or more debt in the MGM-Mirage portfolio?

VEGAS TEMPS are steadily breaking the 100s. All together now: “But it’s a dry heat.” The breeze and lack of humidity actually made it feel cooler than home.

IF YOU’VE SEEN the DVD of the HD Net concert, you know what you’ll get (a great show) when Earth, Wind & Fire and Chicago take the stage July 25 at the Joint in the Hard Rock. We’ll be keeping our fingers crossed and looking forward to reading in Uncle Tom’s Gabbin’ about a Hawaii stop on the joint summer tour.

PROVING ONCE AGAIN that a bad economy is only bad for some of us, the creators of “The World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions,” Barrett-Jackson, returns to Vegas. It has added a fourth day to the second-annual auction happening Oct. 7-10 at the Mandalay Bay. Last year, more than 50,000 people from all 50 states, Mexico and Canada watched as the hammer fell on more than 500 unique vehicles. The top-selling automobile was the first race car ever driven by Carroll Shelby in 1952 ... a 1949 MG TC racing car. It set the high bidder back $313,500.

THE WAIPAHU Marauders Class of 1984 is having its 25th reunion in Las Vegas starting Sept. 18. To get in on the action, e-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) om.

VEGASTRIPPING.COM has a cool review of the Cal, and a shout out to Vacations Hawaii and us locals. Get the link at http://www.KimosVegas.com.

SPEAKIN’OF THE CAL ... Carol Sato of Honolulu won $6,181, Edmund E. Tawara of Kailua won $9,231 and Richard Pang of Waianae won $19,109.

EVERYONE KNOWS that the free drinks the casino offers while you are gambling aren’t really free ... Alcohol clouds your judgment, and that’s a good thing for the house. Planet Hollywood has an innovative plan to get you loosened up before you get to the casino with a new in-room bottle service called “The drinks are on us” ... And if you believe that, I’ve got some land on the Big Island for sale that even has an active volcano on it.
