Rebecca Berry won big in Minnesota

WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!

WE’RE GOING TO depart from Vegas for a bit to congratulate and send our best to 80-year-old Honolulu resident Rebecca Berry, who traveled all the way to Minnesota to hit a big one. Saying she had a feeling about the machine: “I would play, walk away, play, walk away, and I kept coming back to the same machine for two days.” While visiting her daughters, she won $1,373,825.63 on the Mystic Lake Casino’s Wild Cherry progressive slot and said, “I was planning on retiring early next year, but I’m going to call him and say I quit.” A couple of days later her boss, U.S. District Judge Samuel King, released a statement saying she was rushed to the emergency room but was in stable condition ...

MORE THAN 500 poker players were angry at WSOP organizers when they were turned away from a no-limit Texas Hold ‘em main event because there were no more seats available in the $10,000 buy-in tourney. Six-bracelet winner T.J. Cloutier and five-time winner Ted Forrest were among the procrastinators who were left on the river ... 6,494 players are competing in the $61 million main event, where the winner will get about $8.55 million.

THE JUSTIN TIMBER-LAKE Shriners Hospitals for Children Open Oct. 12-18 is an official PGA TOUR event at the TPC Summerlin golf course. More than 132 pros will compete for $4.2 million in prize money. To buy tickets (or volunteer to help), call 702-873-1010.

IF YOU HAVEN’T checked out a concert at The Pearl Concert Theater inside the Palms Casino Resort because ... you’re just too cheap (eh, no shame), on Saturday, July 18, at noon they’ll be handing out free tickets to Limp Bizkit’s show that night. Tickets are one per person and first-come, first-served.

OR MAYBE YOU’RE a foodie who likes to eat cheap ... Now you can check out a Michelin one-star restaurant for $39 per person! The L’Atelier’s new pre-theater express menu lets you choose an appetizer: calamari tempura with aïoli sauce, salmon tartar with fresh wasabi, or seafood tabbouleh with mango essence; an entrée: caramelized beef short ribs accompanied by confit onion and mashed potatoes, fricassee of veal sweetbreads with mushrooms and capers, or cod brandade with fingerling potatoes; and a dessert: chocolate rice soufflé with coffee brûlée, raspberry tiramisu or pistachio crème brûlée with caramelized pistachios. Chef Joel Robuchon’s L’Unique menu is served in a bento box and is available daily until 6:45 p.m.

Terry Fator and friends

I SAW TERRY FATOR (and his cast of thousands), 2007 winner of America’s Got Talent and headliner at the Mirage, the day that

Michael Jackson died. Before the start of his show he informed the audience that the King of Pop had passed away and that he didn’t feel right doing an impression of him that night. Instead he sang a tribute in his voice with lips moving to Michael, and then went right into one of the best shows I’ve ever seen.

KIMO’S VEGAS TIP: Most Vegas shows stop just short of a strip search before you can enter, and if they see your camera, they’ll take it away. However, remember to bring your camera to the Terry Fator performance because he actually encourages you to take pictures during his family-safe show.

THERE’S A RUMOR in town that, if you sign up for the player’s club at the Bellagio and play $200 through a slot machine, they’ll send you a comp for a free room in the next couple of months ... Careful, your mileage may vary.

SALES OF single-family homes and condominiums were up almost 87 percent last month (compared to June of last year) according to the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.

THE DAMIEN Memorial High School Class of 1969 is having its 40th class reunion Oct. 17 at the Main Street Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. E-mail .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) to get in on the action.
