THE SPORTS BOOKS in Vegas made Tiger Woods a 4-1 (bet a buck and, if Tiger wins, you get four) fave to win this year’s U.S. Open. The odds, however, are diametrically opposed to the experts’ predictions.
That’s because both sides have different objectives - the experts wanna be right, but bookies are in it to make money. In a perfect world, an equal amount would be waged for and against Tiger winning and the books make their money by charging a vig (vigorish) on every bet made. The casino gave Wood’s same odds at the Masters and Pebble Beach.

Ten years ago they changed the name to MGM Mirage to help employees of the newly acquired (Steve Wynn’s) Mirage feel more secure with the merged company. The next time you’re paying the mortgage, think about their $13 billion in debt ... Now that’s what you call a big nut.
