WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... the Player’s Edge!
THE FBI arrested Oleg Nikolaenko after he checked into the Bellagio and was checking out the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show. He’s believed to be the mind behind the MegaD botnet, one of the Internet’s biggest “wanna buy a fake Rolex” spammers responsible for one-third of the world’s spam - about 10 billion e-mails a day!
YOU WIN SOME, you lose some ... Last week the government discovered a problem printing new $100 bills. The first notes with Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner’s signature had to be quarantined - a total of $110 billion in hundies! Alan Boyd (Cox Media Group controller) calls that a “BFN” - a big freakin’ number. It’s difficult to visualize how big this really is, but experts estimate it represents 10 percent of all the U.S. kala in the world! As much as 30 percent of the new money contains the flaw, and it would take the Treasury Department 20 to 30 years to sort through all of the bills by hand ... any volunteers?
THERE’S A GREAT story in the Las Vegas Review Journal about John Lennon’s lost Vegas weekends. In it they describe his first shot at gambling: He had to borrow $200 for his roulette “system” ... Kimo’s Vegas tip: Don’t try it with your own money. Get the link at KimosVegas.com.
AT THE FASHION SHOW MALL, “Believe in Magic.” The free holiday show features a 35-foot Christmas tree, dancers, Santa and snow ... well, artificial snow that falls from the ceiling. Check it out on the runway at noon and 2, 4 and 6 p.m.
ZAPPO’S, the huge (billion dollar) online shoe and clothing etailer, is moving downtown. The company signed a deal to occupy the City Hall building on Fremont Street East. CEO Tony Hsieh has another dream, “An indoor ski slope.”
BILLY V is doing his show live on Hawaiian105 KINE from Vegas all week ... when he’s not on the air (5-10 a.m. HI time), he might just be sitting next to you on a Blazing 7’s machine.
ACCORDING TO the latest American Pulse Survey, 58.1 percent of the 10,184 participants said they would not be flying less this holiday season as a result of the new TSA scanner and pat-down procedures - 55.5 percent said it’s lolo not to profile airline passengers ... What do you think?
YEAH, THAT’S THE TICKET. Yeah, I wanna go to the Playboy Club Las Vegas to see comedian Jon Lovitz ... yeah, Tommy Flanagan, The Pathological Liar, Dec. 30-Jan. 1. Tickets are $39.99 and $59.99 (VIP) including admission to see the Playmates after the show.
ONLY IN VEGAS ... A doctor dressed as Elvis performed CPR after running the Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll half marathon. Claudio Palma, an anesthesiolo-gist, ran into a fellow runner who passed out at the Burger Bar in the Mandalay Bay. He told paramedics that when the woman regained consciousness she gave him a weird look and said she was OK ... What would you say to the King after passing out? ... No good deed goes unpunished - the doc got married later that day.
