LAST WEEK Sam Choy judged the Poke Contest at Malibu Chan’s (owned by ex- UH baseball player Warren Seta). While he was there he made 400 pounds of his famous poke. How do you mix that much poke … one cement mixer?
THE STARDUST threw another great party at the Royal … in addition to the ono food and bar everyone enjoyed the $20,000 in cash they gave away (especially the folks who won). Miss Honolulu Amber Stone danced hula, Kaneala Danny Kaleikini, Jordan Segundo and Al Waterson sang and Tiny Tadani and Sweetie Pacarro were the MCs.
BILL BOYD, Sam’s son and the architect of Boyd Gaming’s growth to one of the largest (and profitable) gaming companies, announced at the party that they will be renovating (blowing up!) the Stardust in 2007, but they have some surprises in store for us Hawaii guys!
YOU’RE NOT seeing things, that is Kaimuki grad Junior Faitau the fire dancer from “O” cruisin’ in Palolo with his wife, Ululani, and daughters while the show is on break.
Yes, that was fire dancer Junior Faitau from the O cruisin’ in Palolo
ONE OF the four reasons we go Vegas is … to shop! If you’re one of the afflicted, here’s a tip we got from Jared Chupaila, the general manager of the Fashion Show Mall … Say shoes are your thing — the best time to buy shoes in Vegas is … when the shoe convention is in town! The manufacturers and reps all want to look good so they cut deals with the stores so their stuff is fully stocked and on sale! Go to lvcva.com to find your favorite convention … er, sale … And ladies, it works better if you tell us guys you’re going to the “International Lingerie Show” and not the “World Shoe Convention”!
IN PLAY: Snoop Dog at the Palms Skin Pool Lounge May 24 … Alicia Keys at the MGM Grand Garden May 26 and 27, Maroon 5 at the same place, June 11 and look for U2 November 4 and 5.
Bill Boyd of Boyd’s Gaming
PEOPLE FROM Hawaii go golfing in Vegas all the time, now you folks with the 13- pound balls can try the Shadow Creek of bowling … the $26 million Strike Zone Bowling Center. The GM of the Sunset Station Pat Kerns says “This surpasses anything you’ve ever seen in a bowling center”! The place is 76,000 square feet (about the size of 152 Waikiki condos) with 72 Brunswick Pro Anvil lanes, 36-inch color scoring monitors and a 46-inch plasma TV between each lane, concert lighting, a 50,000 watt Bose sound system and anything else you can imagine … We’re not in Pali Lanes anymore, Toto!
SEEN ON the Strip … KCCN FM100’s Davey D & Brother John from OC16’s Overdrive Live.
