WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas! This week on Sports Radio 1420 AM we visit with Sarah Harding Traverso to learn what motivated her to win Miss Fitness USA 2006. Then we check in with Mike Weatherford, who reviews all the Vegas shows and concerts for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. He’s seen every show in Vegas numerous times - what’s his favorite? My heart started beating faster and my palms got that moist feeling as I found out about a new reality show on Spike TV called King of Vegas. If it sounds like you get to gamble with OPM (Other People’s Money), you are absolutely right. They’re looking for players who have mastered the entire art of gambling. You’ve seen the formula before, we get to meet the players, learn their stories and then they knock each other off the show one by one using their prowess at the tables. The winner gets ... one million dollars (thank you MiniMe). If this sounds like you, apply online at www.spiketv .com/events/kingofvegas/.
Peter Max fans take note: He’s making a rare personal appearance at his gallery in The Forum Shops Nov. 25-26.
Lake Las Vegas hosted the fourth annual Outrigger Canoe Regatta and Hawaiian Isle Festival ... So does this mean we get to host the Las Vegas Slot Marathon and Craps Invitational?
At the Palms Resort, check out the second annual Leather & Lace Gala at Rain Nightclub ... $10,000 in cash and prizes for the Best and Sexiest Costumes.
A gown from Roberto Cavalli
Speaking of costumes, during the Palms fourth anniversary weekend Nov. 4 they will be revealing the new Playboy Bunny uniforms designed by Roberto Cavalli. From Brigitte Bardot to Britney Spears, J. Lo & Beyonce, his designs have adorned some of the hottest bodies of our time ... He does guy wear too, but its not as much fun (for me) to write about Sting and Hugh Hefner. It’s the first time since the uniform’s introduction in 1960 that it’s being redesigned. Can a calendar be far behind?
Francine Kurosawa was the hit of the family reunion at the Fremont when she won $10,000 on the $1 10x Pay ... Afterwards everyone wanted to go shopping with her. The luck of the Mauians continued when Gaudencio Paglinawan hit the $1 Black and Gold for $10,000.
Then the B&G paid off big time for Ethel Jane Jardine, who put in $100 and won $25,000!
The MGM Grand‘s Sake Sommelier Eric Swanson is leaving to join Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s second eatery in the Big Apple. Did you know they serve $1,000 bottles of sake at Shibuya? Can buy one shot or you gotta buy da whole bottle? You know what they say: If you have to ask how much it costs, you no can afford.
Also at the Grand, the restaurant called Chef Joel Robuchon at the Mansion features a 14-foot by 40-foot vertical garden. I wonder how they make the dirt to stay in place?
Wanna do some star spotting? Make plans to visit Vegas on Dec. 19 when the Radio Music Awards returns to Aladdin - soon to be Planet Hollywood Hotel. Last year we saw Elton, Beyonce and Nelly, plus lotsa people who use two names.
