RETIRED Indiana Pacers No. 31 Reggie Miller and Hawaii born actress Stacy Kamano stopped by Maharaja Ultra Lounge a couple weeks ago to visit owner Peter Maharaj. The celebrity hot spot also hosted 850 “industry workers” for its “SIN” Under the Moon Event (service industry night). Bartenders and servers partied till 4 a.m. … RAPPER/actor Snoop Dog was also in town staying at the Waikiki Sheraton. He was here for the big “Salute the Troops” fundraiser … MISS HAWAII 2004 Olena Rubin has passed down her crown and finally has time to have fun. She danced and partied the night away at Smart Magazine’s celebration and fashion show at SKYLINE (Hanohano Room). Sergio Mora (NBC’s The Contender winner) was promoter Flash Hansen’s personal guest. He mingled with models (two-time Miss Waikiki) Jenn Abreu and former Miss Hawaii USA Juliet Lighter after the show … Cult legend Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine hit the stage for a mini-concert following SKYLINE, perfect for the lounge vibe. But it gets better — the men of Playgirl’s male revue headed to the Sheraton Waikiki after their sold-out show at the Wave Waikiki. Between the male strippers and grooves of DJ KSM and G-Dog, the place was smokin’. Skateboarding legend Christian Hosoi was also spotted in the crowd …

MidWeek columnist Katie Young plans to have her b-day bash at SKYLINE this weekend. We’ll have all the juicy details next week … MARY-KATE Olson was on Maui in July for a romantic getaway with new billionaire boyfriend Stavros Niarchos III. The couple was spotted getting breakfast at a local coffee shop. Niarchos is a Greek shipping heir whose family owns several homes on the isle … ONTO sports: Before heading back to Punahou for her junior year, Michelle Wie took a swing at her first Women’s British Open and tied for third. Wie and 18-yearold Paula Creamer stole the show from 34-year-old Annika Sorenstam, who was going for her third “Major” win this year. They were still no match for winner Jeong Jang. Wie has turned down more than $650,000 this year to maintain her amateur status. But she’s got plenty of time to make it up. Laura Davies (British Cup winner 1986) told the AP she’s glad to see the young talent emerging. “At the U.S. Open, there was an 18-year-old, a 17-year-old and a 15-year-old … and it had triple the (TV) ratings of the men’s tournament that week” … Meanwhile former Yokozuna Akebono (Chad Rowen) took a beating at last week’s K-1 — his seventh loss in eight fights … BJ Penn kicked some butt, though, against yet another Gracie family fighter the same night at the Aloha Stadium. He’s no joke … UH Warrior Chad Owens will be joining Chris Fuamatu Maafala and Vince Manuwai of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Owens signed a three-year contract for more than $1 million! … CHRIS Uno (Waldorf School) was back on the isle visiting his dad. The 32-year-old self-proclaimed “computer geek” owns his own networking firm in Atlanta and says a three-bedroom home in Atlanta’s suburbs costs about $130,000. That, he said, is what keeps him from moving home … HONOLULU Mayor Mufi Hannemann agreed to back a series of free business seminars at Kapolei Hale. Last week’s first seminar was booked with bankers and financiers. The next two are scheduled for Aug. 17 and Sept. 4. Small Business Association business specialist Jane Sawyer says she hopes they will eventually become monthly seminars — teaching people about contracts, employee benefit packages and how to get rid of debt. and Chocolate Fountain Hawaii’s Tony Holt
at the 18th Annual Wedding Expo

MORE THAN 1,500 bridesto- be hit the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall for Hawaii’s 18th Annual Wedding Expo. Talk about sensory overload! Florists, DJs, photographers, favor makers, coordinators —more than 200 vendors filled the hall. It is one of the biggest wedding expos in the country. Ariel Krape (soonto- be Ariel “Hylton”) brought her mom and her matron of honor Miranda Scott. Expo president Brad Buckles says that’s the norm. Only 20 percent of the future brides who attended had their fiancés with them. I guess it’s a “girl thing.” I bribed my fiancé with chocolate-covered coconut macaroons and the chocolate fountain by Chocolate Fountain Hawaii. Owners Tony and Coco Holt say you choose your dipping weapons: marshmallows, fruit, wafers — like an overflowing volcano of fondue! Junior Kekuewa Jr. was there with the Hot 93.9 FM crew. Check out his music samples on www.jurkjur.com. … I couldn’t believe photographer David Murphy was already booked for next July 1. By far one of the most talented photographers on the island, his rates are worth it — if you can get him. He only does 40-50 weddings a year. Modeling agency ADR provided the models for the bridal fashion shows with the island’s top designers like Anne Namba and top bridal salons … Ruth Mahelona and Nichole Shin make unique and elegant invitations, programs and save-the-date cards. These two young women started custom designing stationery two years ago. Owner Michael Han and Kahu Sherman Thompson performed a blessing over the location in honor of 18 years of good service. Han thanked employee Helen Lau for 14 years of exceptional service. The Wedding Ring Shop will reopen in August at 1221 Kapiolani Blvd., fourth floor until its grand opening at 1181 Kapiolani in March ’06 … GOODBYE and mahalo to Bart Bascone, who died July 22. The songwriter and composer wrote Don Ho’s song Who was the Lolo that Stole my Pakalolo? His good friend, comedian Mel Cabang, wrote, “I am eternally grateful for knowing such a super giving, wonderfully caring, extremely talented person as Bart Bascone … He referred to me affectionately as his bolo-head brother-in-law. I love you, Bart.” Friends and fans will take his ashes out to sea midmonth … JOIN Braddah Sam at Volcano Joe’s Island Bistro and Coffee House Saturday, Aug. 13 for live music by Dallen Santos, Zaysha (from Simple Soul), and Vaihi.
