Makana is begging for his stolen guitar
to be returned — no questions asked
FIRST AND foremost—a big shout out to the Ewa Beach Little League! Way to go, guys! Coach Layton Aliviado missed an awesome party at his house with 200 family and friends, but he was busy celebrating with the boys in South Williamsport! Gotta tell you guys — Hawaii couldn’t be prouder! The World Championship ended along with summer, and for most people that means farewell to the beach and bikinis and time to get back to work ... BUT FOR Aqua Couture Swimwear co-founder Laura Ivy, the two are one and the same. She and business partner Ale Klein-Smith make and sell one-of-a-kind beaded swimwear. Each suit goes for $150, but well worth the price for their uniqueness. The two have been in business for three years, but kept their client list exclusive.
Makeup artist Christine Lillo is back to work on the cast of Lost. She’s drop-dead gorgeous, but most people don’t know — she’s also incredibly shy. Yes, beautiful girls can be shy, too, and those who don’t know her sometimes mistake it for arrogance. But she is a gem! Lostpremieres locally at Sunset on the Beach in Waikiki in a couple of weeks — red-carpet style with all the cast, so get there early ... Christina Simpkins is out and about doing a million things. Not only is she getting more involved in her art/photography, but she is doing the publicity for several TV and film projects. One of those films is called Love Abrasive. UH grad Andrew Ma wrote and will produce and direct the short film along with fellow alumnus and co-producer Andrew Gregor. This is a story of love, jealousy, insecurity and trust. It’s centered around three roommates and their bizarre love-triangle type relationship. Ma and Gregor plan to finish casting the first week of September and start filming Sept 17. They say they plan to submit the film to the Sundance film festival ... Midwife Dawn Noble celebrated her b-day with a surprise party hosted by model boyfriend Mossimo at his posh Diamond Head home. Dozens of beautiful friends arrived to party with the host and hostess. But Dawn was slightly sidetracked by the state real estate exam she had to take the following day ... SLACK-KEY guitar player Makana is desperate to get his stolen guitar back. Someone broke into his home in Kaimuki a few weeks ago and stole two laptop computers, sound system equipment and some other stuff. His laptop holds the masters of his life’s musical work, but he says even more devastating — losing his most cherished possession — an old, worn out Takamine acoustic guitar. "Uncle Sonny (slack key guitar master Sonny Chillingworth) gave it to me when I was 13," said Makana sorrowfully. "It has no real value," he added, "except to me. I don’t care who took it. I just want it back." The front of the guitar is worn away from years of playing, some of the wood is even chipped away, it has two holes in the face of the guitar near the soundhole (worn away by playing) and two electric jacks. If anyone has any seen this guitar, call Evan at 255-3826 ... TINY TADANI resigned from KUMU to do the morning drive at KHUI (formerly "The Breeze.") The Hawaiian music station is now called "HUI" ... to match the station’s call letters "KHUI" ... very cute! The format changed too. No more Jawaiian, just contemporary easy-listening Hawaiian ... looks like KINE has some competition. Of course Tiny bring his TV/radio simulcast 7-8 a.m. on OC 16 ... FYI — Frank Shaner has joined Mandy Sunaguma in the mornings on KUMU’s Breakfast Club. Another FYI — Skylark‘s no longer with The Breeze. The word is, she resigned ...
THIS FRIDAY night — hit The Spice Lounge at E&O Trading Company for SMART magazine’s fall preview party 10 p.m.-2 a.m. ... GiRlFeSt kicks off this weekend along with the "Cop on Top" fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Donations accepted at all Safeways locations Thursday-Saturday. This year’s goal is to raise $200,000 for the Special Olympics Hawaii ...
