Lots of women making headlines this week: Local filmmaker and Girl Fest organizer Kathryn Xian received the 2005 Human and Civil Rights Award from the National Education Association. Kathryn spent most of her life wanting to make a difference. She was that way when we first met almost 20 years ago. Her film, Ke Kulana He Mahu: Remember a Sense of Place, is shown at universities such as Harvard, Duke, McGill, Stanford and UH. Her latest film, Hawaii Slam: Poetry in Paradise, is currently touring the film festival circuit on the Mainland. It will be officially “released” in Hawaii during the Hawaii International Film Festival in October. Congrats, girl! And thank you for the work you do for women worldwide …

Star 101.9 FM’s Hudson Hott gets a hug
from bud Tommy Lee in Vegas

Star 101.9 FM’s Bizarro Morning Show hostess Hudson Hott recently returned from Vegas where she and the family went to a Motley Crue concert. Of course, Tommy Lee is one of her best buds, but it’s still strange to think of taking a family trip to go see Motley Crue. But her son Julian “was sooooo into seeing ‘Uncle Tommy and playing with his drums before the show.’” They hung out with Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous host Robin Leach, Vince Neil’s mom, Mona, and his new wife, Lea … oh … and “a whole lotta rockers!” …

Whether it’s “family time” in Vegas or “girl time” at the spa, be sure to get that “quality” time. I’ve written about Philana Bouvier before. At 28, she’s already on the fast track to success with her new PR company Bouvier Productions. Philana and I are both workaholics, both Leos (July 24 and July 25) and both constantly on the go — we decided we needed to take some “time off” from life or have a breakdown. We headed out of town to Ihilani. After a few hours there, I felt like a new woman. My massage with “Marcel” was fabulous. People may think spa days are for special occasions, take too much time or cost too much money. But that’s not always true. Spa director Robin Desha told me kamaaina always receive a 15 percent discount on 50-minute spa treatments and have access to the facilities for the whole day. “This is why movie stars look so great all the time!” Philana said as we melted into the warm water. “They do this all the time!” “Wouldn’t that be nice,” I mumbled. I can see why the Pro Bowl buys out the resort every February — to be pampered. I hear the players even get pedicures … I usually think of pedicures as a woman’s luxury. Well, the women at the Shoe Diva and Sexy Shoe Contest at Macy’s Ala Moana proved it is. Twenty-five contestants wore their (own) sexiest shoes in hopes of winning a new pair of $200 designer shoes. Three TV celebrity judges played the roles of Paula, Randy and Simon. “The winner goes on to win a free trip to California Avenue — in Wahiawa,” joked emcee Rodney Villanueva .

and Sexy Shoe Contest at Macy’s
Ala Moana

Contestants were judged on the shape of the shoe, heel, color, outfits, legs and overall sexiness. There were pink Candies and paisley mules, stilettos and rainbow sequined slip-ons. Contestant No. 8 admitted to owning 82 pairs of shoes. Another said she had “60-something at home, and four in the car.” Marilyn Keller carried her silver sequined Victoria’s Secret boots so she could have two shots at the Shoe Diva throne. “I loved them (the boots) so much I bought two pair!” she said. She clipped on rhinestone earrings to add extra shimmer. Marilyn wouldn’t tell me her age, but says she’s in a “valuable bracket” (whatever that means.) “I feel like I’m 21!” Her smile says it all. She still wears her boots when she sings karaoke. Then, she wears the skirt and jacket to match. For the contest, she chose a teal leather outfit with dyed mink trim, stiletto heels and rhinestone bracelets. “Fashion is fun and fabulous!” she said with the enthusiasm of a teenager. “I go all the way. The glitz just makes you want to wink at all the men.” I caught her winking at a few as they strolled by. This lady knows how to live. Unfortunately, she didn’t win. No. 17 Tiffany Lau took the crown — which matched perfectly with her $500 Christian Diors she bought on E-Bay. The two female judges were impressed. “Verrrry sexy.” Black with 3-inch heels, a strap across the front and tied around the ankle. A soft pom-pom hung over the top of the foot and sashayed back and forth as she walked. They reminded me of the hooves of a Clydesdale. Her black halter mini-dress and oversized hoop earrings completed the look. She said the contest was the first time she’s worn the shoes … Happy birthday to popular night-lifer Elaine Codilla, who celebrated at Feng Shui with G-Spot, KSmooth, Fred Rico and the rest of the Hot 93.9FM crowd. Star-Bulletin columnist John Berger and local marine artist Christian Lassen were also there … Coming up at Feng Shui — a benefit for surfer and photographer Jon Mozo, who died Feb. 9 taking photos at Backdoor Pipeline. This event is April 16 from 7 to 10 p.m. There will be a silent auction, fashion show and $10 cover. Event promoter G-Spot says 100 percent of the proceeds from the door (until 10 p.m.) and money made from the silent auction will go to the Mozo family. Artists Christian Lassen and Wyland are donating items for the silent auction. You can also donate directly to a trust established for Jon’s wife, Nikki, and their children Makana, Amber, Ariana and Anela. Mail donations to: The Jon Mozo Legacy Fund, c/o The Mozos, P.O.
