Cindy McMillan has been promoted to executive vice president of Communications Pacific, joining the executive team with Kitty Lagareta and Christina Kemmer. McMillan works with both governmental and private clients on a variety of construction and development projects, as well as cultural issues. McMillan came to CommPac after five years as a legislative aide at the Honolulu City Council, where she developed considerable experience in strategic legislative and grass-roots outreach.

John L. Garibaldi has been announced as president of Royal State Insurance (RSI). Garibaldi will oversee day-to-day operations for the Hawaii-based insurance carrier. Mostrecently, Garibaldi served as vice chairman, president and CEO of Hawaii Superferry. Prior to that he served as president and CEO of Zephyr Insurance Company.

Colin Hazama has been named senior executive sous chef at Sheraton Waikiki. Hazama was most recently the chef de cuisine at Kauai Grill Culinary Concepts by JeanGeorges Vongerichten at The St. Regis Princeville Resort. Hazama has prior experience at RumFire at Sheraton Waikiki, Hoku’s at The Kahala Hotel and Resort and Alan Wong’s Restaurant in Honolulu.

Cheryl Tanaka has been promoted by Kuakini Health Systems to manager of care management and medical social work. Tanaka will oversee the departments that ensure Kuakini’s patients receive quality and appropriate care. She has been with the Kuakini team for more than 30 years.

Tom Hoen has been named senior project manager for Rider Levett Bucknall, an international construction consultancy firm. Hoen’s expertise is in project management from inception of a project, developing a project team and managing the process through to construction completion and delivery to the owner. Hoen has worked on all major islands and has recently completed the Club at Kukui’ula on Kauai.

Correction: Jennifer Diesman remains vice president of government relations at HMSA as well as being appointed president of Association of Health Plans.
