The spirit of giving continues this weekend with a rock ‘n’ roll fundraiser and a Christmas concert with loads of prize giveaways.
Natural Vibrations is throwing the ultimate Christmas party at Pipeline Cage this Friday.
“This Christmas party started off with just family and friends and it grew,” says Peni Pub’auli, lead singer of Natural Vibrations. “We’d have it at the house and people would crash it, and it got out of hand. So we decided to have it at a bigger venue and invite everyone, and each year it’s grown. This year we’ve added Rebel Souljahs.”
Presented by Island Rhythms 98.5 and Corona, Natural Vibrations’ seventh annual Chronic Christmas Party once again promises a killer lineup of musicians and prize giveaways including a PowerBilt golf putter, clothing from Billabong, Barefoot League and Butigroove, and T’n'T Tinting gift certificates.
Come party with Rebel Souljahs, Ooklah The Moc, Marty Dread, Jasmin Nicole, the JP Band, Po’okela and, of course, the main event - Natural Vibes (Pub’auli, Shane Abraham, Kayton Macariola,Stacy Medeiros, Jehua Evans and Wayne Enos).
Doors open at 8 p.m., the concert begins at 9 and the music won’t stop till 4 a.m. Dread will host and jump in to do a few songs with Natural Vibrations.
“It’s a circus. There are people who come dressed up as elves and even Santa,” adds Pub’auli. “It’s a good-spirited party. We do some Christmas songs, but for the most part it’s just getting together to have a good time.”
Advance tickets cost $20 general and $30 for VIP; $25 general and $35 VIP at the door, and are available at Pipeline, Hawaii’s Natural High and Local Motion, or online at groovetickets.com.
The holiday season is just one reason for Natural Vibes to celebrate. The band also has an album in the works that is expected to release sometime early next year.
“We’re having a really good time making this album, and it’s probably one of the best albums we’ve done so far,” says Pub’auli. “This album has a lot more in-depth writing from different band members, and the music is just phenomenal. I think people will be happy because of the direction the band is going, and this album showcases our growth without moving away from our formula.”
Almost 19 years together and still going strong, Natural Vibes will make a strong presence in the coming year. For the first time, they’ll hit the road on New Year’s to headline the Rockit Room in San Francisco. By spring they’ll have a new album to promote and then fly out for a West Coast tour.

Rock on into the weekend with the Rock N Roll Fundraiser benefiting the Hawaii Foodbank Saturday at Hawaiian Brian’s.
Opening the evening is Completely Insane at 8:30, offering up ska, humor and skits, followed by Free Pizza, a Rage Against the Machine (RATM) tribute band. Next up is some original hard rock with Kilroy. And headlining the show is The Sex Puppets, performing a mix of jazz and rock with a unique spin and lots of energy.
“The groups were selected based on their ability to perform and their attitude about life,” says Willsie Scott, entertainment coordinator. “I have worked with all the bands, and I knew that these four groups were all hard workers, put on strong shows, but were truly good human beings and would help us with this show. All four enthusiastically stepped up.”
This all goes down in Hawaiian Brian’s’ newly expanded showroom that features a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system in addition to a full-service bar.
“Hawaiian Brian’s has installed a soundstage with Meyers speakers and a Meyers Galileo Sound Management System,” adds Scott. “There is a front-of-house sound and lighting booth with an Allen & Heath GL series mixer, Lexicon and Antares effects units. There also is a DMX lighting system. Hawaiian Brian’s has introduced a ‘Plug-in and Play’ system for entertainers with the addition of a backline.
“So bottom line, no more smoky pool hall, and instead a great place for family fun and for singles to meet and socialize while enjoying a quality entertainment package.”
For this concert, the showroom will welcome only age 21-and-over patrons. However, the billiard and arcade will remain open to all ages. Keep in mind that the audio feed is distributed throughout the entire 22,000-square-foot facility, so everyone will be able to enjoy the show.
In lieu of the standard cover charge, bring two non-perishable canned goods for admission. All canned goods received are eligible to be distributed by Hawaii Foodbank the following week in time for Christmas.

This concert is part of Hawaiian Brian’s new general manager Glenn Anderson‘s mission to establish Hawaiian Brian’s as a musician-friendly live music venue. His music team includes Randy Bauske of Baus Engineering, who engineered the live stage sound system; Willsie Scott of Freaki Tiki Sound, on-site sound engineer, consultant and booking agent for rock, metal and alternative groups; Clint Kalaloa of Tidal Wave Entertainment, lounge and bar manager, and the booking agent for island style music; and Irwin Santos, retro dance booking agent and promoter.
