Steve Yoshimoto’s ‘65 Corvette Coupe
This Vette is the outcome of several friends getting together once a week to help another friend rebuild his dream car. The job was a complete frame-off restoration, which takes days and days to do. It gives you an idea of the kind of friends Steve Yoshimoto has.
“I bought this car from John Pinero, and back then the color of the car was Nassau blue, same as the interior you see,” says Yoshimoto. “Then friends like Mel Sakaba and Larry Caetano would come up to Dennis’ house to work on this car. A lot of people from cruise nights helped me out, too.”
Just knowing that Pinero, Sakaba and Caetano were involved in the rebuild gives many who know them an idea of how meticulous it was put together. Although there were a few things that didn’t go as planned.
“The most difficult part of the build was getting the parts from the Mainland,” says Yoshimoto. “A lot of the times when they sent me the part, it wouldn’t fit. So we would have to make adjustments in order to get the part to work. So it was the little things that made the difference.”
The midnight blue paint job is what Yoshimoto is most proud of, and as if building this ride wasn’t enough, Yoshimoto is looking for another Corvette to build.
