While attending the import show back in August Yu-Wei Tsai was inspired by the Evo owners there to build himself a sick E-8. After hours of researching the parts and feedback from other owners, Tsai had this ride show ready in time for last week’s Hot Import Nights.

“I did a ton of research, and I didn’t want to be just another Evo,” says Tsai. “I went with stuff that other Evo’s didn’t have, like my trunk. I have the only 4-point trunk cage in Hawaii and I upgraded my strut bar in the engine bay. There are several other things I have that others don’t — I wanted to be unique.”

Getting the car done in time for HIN was exciting for Tsai, especially since it was his first car show. Once at the show he found out how brutal the car show world can be on a first-timer, even though his car is one of the top 3 Evo’s on the island.

“HIN was a pretty strange experience. I followed all of the rules that they e-mailed me only to find out that nobody was abiding by those rules,” says Tsai. “And when they announced the Mitsubishi winners, Third took the Wild category and they never announced the Mild category. There was seven of us Evo owners waiting with our friends and crew until the end of the show and they never announced the winner.”

The experience hasn’t deterred Tsai and he plans on upping his game for the August show where he hopes for a more pleasant experience.
