Every little girl dreams of that fairy-tale love story where her Prince Charming will sweep her off her feet and they will live happily ever after. For many, as the years pass, that dream slowly becomes an unrealistic fantasy, with detours along the way. But for 28-year old makeup artist, model and dancer Jessica Hoffman, that dream is still as true today as it was 13 years ago.
“That real, unconditional love is worth waiting for, and I know that every girl longs to have that at the end of her fairy tale - this love where your husband will fight for you, respect you, value you and cherish you - and it doesn’t come from giving your body away early on,” says Hoffman, Californian turned Island girl.
At the age of 12, Hoffman made a purity pledge and commitment to herself, her future husband, God, her family and her future children that she would remain abstinent until marriage.
“I knew it would be difficult, but I realized the benefit of it and I was really captivated by the love story of it all,” she says. “To tell somebody you waited for them, for me, that’s one of the most powerful ways of saying I love you.”
In January of last year, Hoffman rediscovered that purity pledge and, she says, that one decision has immensely shaped her life for the better.
“I always wanted to encourage young women,” she says, “and I really felt it put on my heart that I would be leading a purity ministry.”
Three months later Hoffman founded Pure Beauty Ministries, bringing her two loves and passions together, incorporating fashion and beauty with the message of abstinence.
Hoffman will lead her third Pure Beauty workshop Nov. 19 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Koolau Golf Course ballroom.

“The message is that women are made to be beautiful and called to be pure,” says Hoffman, who’s encouraging unmarried women ages 14 to 34 to attend the event. “The word purity means to not be contaminated with anything. I want women to be pure in their dreams and the way that they think of themselves. We tackle self-esteem issues, having a vision for your life, having dreams and having the courage and boldness to live it.
“It’s really awesome to be able to meet women on an intimate level and talk about these intimate things that are really at the core of every woman,” Hoffman attests. “We want to be loved, we want to be beautiful, we want to have this beautiful relationship - and it’s out there and available to us, but we have to know that we need to protect it, we need to plan for it and prepare for it.”
With a pink carpet entrance, a fashion show featuring professional models and designs by Fashionista’s Market along with beauty giveaways, Hoffman hopes to achieve her goal of helping women feel loved and pampered. Lauren Silva and Safe Harbor Band will provide entertainment for the evening. Guest speakers Kytia L’Amour, singer/songwriter; Melissa D’Avenio, hairstylist at J Salon; Samantha Sprauge, Sweet 16, and Jalee Fuselier, Miss North Shore, will share their personal experiences in regard to femininity, sex and dating. Video documentaries also will help illustrate Hoffman’s passion.
“It’s going to be a fashion event - it will be a girly event - there will be fashion and beauty tips, and then there’s going to be women who are bold enough to step forward and share their life story, how they feel beautiful and how they live their life. That’s what Pure Beauty is all about,” explains the veteran makeup artist who recently traveled to Fiji to do hair and makeup for Ocean Magazine.
“I want women to leave the event feeling beautiful, uplifted and encouraged,” Hoffman says. “Honestly, whether or not they make a decision to be pure until they’re married, what I want them to do is elevate their thoughts on sex and their bodies.”
Growing up in Huntington Beach, Calif., Hoffman says, she comes from a huge family in which three of four women had teen pregnancies, thus motivating her to remain abstinent until marriage.
“I want to live by example,” she says. “My life has been blessed. I’ve been able to travel the world, live in different countries and achieve my dreams in the fashion and entertainment industry.”
Hoffman served as a dancer and performer at Tokyo Disneyland and recently attended Fashion Week in New York City, interviewing internationally acclaimed makeup artists, models and designers.
Beautiful, talented, witty and genuinely sincere, it’s hard to believe that this go-getter has never had a serious boyfriend. Yes, she’s been on her fair share of dates, but quite frankly, she says, she really enjoys the single life - for now.
“I love my life and my single time so much that, in order for me to not be single anymore, then it would have to be ‘the one,’ my future husband,” Hoffman admits. “Being single is a breeding ground for beautiful things. You’re allowed to focus on you and not worry about anyone else.
“I’m a fan of allowing yourself to experience life and the world as a single before giving your whole life to another person,” she says.
Hoffman has always been strong in her faith, trusting in it the most to get through life’s struggles. For instance, her father passed away when she was 5 and, according to Hoffman, the lessons and love she received from him made her believe that anything is possible.
“He asked me questions like, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up? You can do anything.‘When he passed away, there was a huge missing part in my life, and as a child I remember looking up into the sky and saying, ‘God, I need you to be my dad,’ so heaven became very close to me because my daddy was there.”
She also admits that focusing on the eternal rather than the present has helped her to remain pure.
“I’ve always had a great vision for my life. Every time I was tempted or in a moment of weakness, my dreams would pop into my head,” Hoffman explains. “I would have this vision of my future husband and me traveling the world and enriching people to be pure. That has kept me grounded.”
Hoffman hopes to continue to host biannual Pure Beauty conferences in Hawaii and California, empowering and inspiring women to feel beautiful in their own skin.
“When I do Pure Beauty workshops, I like for women to feel safe enough that they’re in an arena with real women. I’m trying to be a real, relatable woman, and I want other women to know that they can come to me for beauty tips or help in a relationship,” Hoffman says.
“When you see your vision manifested in real life, you’re on top of the world. Nothing is more fulfilling than to know that you’re living a purposeful life. It’s a natural high that you get out of life and doing what you love.”
Tickets to next week’s Pure Beauty workshop cost $7 presale and $10 at the door. The first 75 women receive a gift bag filled with beauty products and more.
