The American Cancer Society’s eighth annual Boots on the Beach committee selected cancer survivor Chris Pablo as this year’s honoree for the Patti Schuler Recognition Award.

Pablo was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia in 1995. Following bone marrow donor recruitment drives in 1996, he miraculously received a matching donor. Pablo is chairman of the ACS Hawaii Pacific Board, and has worked on legislation to ban secondhand smoke. He also is the recipient of several awards, both locally and nationally.
