Hawaii Youth Opera Chorus held its second annual gala dinner, Kupu A’e, last month at Washington Place. Titled “An Evening with the Queen,” the event honored the musical legacy of Queen Lili’uokalani, who lived at Washington Place for more than half a century, and as one of Hawaii’s most gifted composers, filled its halls with music.

Entertainer Marlene Sai, who has portrayed Lili’uokalani on stage and television, was present as honorary chairwoman. The evening also honored HYOC co-founder Eileen Lum and charter member Kalena Silva for their many contributions to HYOC.
