The Hawaii Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation held its first gala event Dec. 11 at Sheraton Waikiki. In attendance were police chiefs from across the state, families of those lost in the line of duty and U.S. Marshal Gervin Miyamoto. Proceeds from the gala, which the foundation plans to hold annually, will kick-start a campaign to build a memorial to honor Hawaii’s fallen law enforcement officers. Hawaii is one of the only states in the nation that does not yet have such a memorial. Family survivors and law enforcement officers created the foundation for that purpose, with the goal of raising $1 million.
