At WalkAmerica, nearly 3,000 people marched together to raise $500,000 in support of the March of Dimes’ efforts to save babies from premature birth. As the March of Dimes largest annual fundraiser, WalkAmerica helps fund the fight against prematurity — a growing crisis that now affects a half-million babies born in the United States every year.

After a beautiful five-mile trek through Waikiki, participants were treated to great entertainment by Yvonne Elliman and Sam Kapu III, a Keiki Karnival, free massages, great food and refreshing Orange Julius drinks as well as Blue Bunny Ice Cream.

MidWeek/Star-Bulletin president Dennis Francis chaired the event, which also was supported by Central Pacific Bank, Times Supermarket, CIGNA, Famous Footwear, Farmers Insurance Group, FedEx and Kmart.
