The Friends of the Cancer Research Center of Hawai’i recently staged its benefit gala, “The Mauka Makai ... Voyage of Discovery” at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Themed “Viva la Cancer Research,” it featured Mexican cuisine, entertainment and decor. The event, which benefits the UH Cancer Research Center, also honored Bert and Susan Kobayashi with the Mauka Makai Award for their contributions to the progress of cancer research, treatment and education.
