Simply Delicious Shrimp And Steak

This week, granddaughter Samantha joins us in the kitchen to prepare a simple yet special teriyaki steak and shrimp tempura dish.

This show originally aired in May 2002.



SHRIMP TEMPURA

For Tempura Batter:

* 2 cups all-purpose flour

* 1 cup cornstarch

* salt and pepper, to taste

* 1 tablespoon baking powder

* 1 egg, beaten

* 1 1/2 cups cold ale or beer

Combine dry ingredients, then add egg and ale. Whisk batter until smooth.


For Tempura Dipping Sauce:

* 1/3 cup Aloha shoyu

* 4 tablespoons mirin

* 2 tablespoons sake

* 1 1/3 cups dashi

* daikon, grated

* fresh ginger, grated

* green onions, thinly sliced

TERIYAKI STEAK

* salt and pepper

* steak

* teriyaki sauce

Season steak with salt and pepper and cook to desired doneness. Slice steak and season with your favorite teriyaki sauce.
