NORDSTROM STORE OPENING:
JUST ONE MONTH TO GO!
Nordstrom Store Preview

The new Nordstrom store opens March 7, but SMART was lucky enough to get a preview of the new space. Three floors of amazing fashion, style and beauty await local shoppers. For clothing, there’s everything from designer collections (Dries Van Noten, Thakoon, Lanvin) to more contemporary designers (the Via C department will feature 3.1 Philip Lim, Milly, Tory Burch) to up-and-coming designers (the Savvy department includes designers like Karta, LAMB and local line Fighting Eel). Nordstrom is known for its shoe departments - in fact, Nordstrom ran Liberty House’s shoe department up until 1997 - and the Ala Moana store will carry everything from junior (known as B.P. in the Nordstrom parlance) to contemporary to salon shoes. Nordstrom’s stock room will hold more than one-third of an acre of shoeboxes! Combine all of this with a Deborah Lippmann Nail Bar, an Anastasia Brow Bar, an amazing selection of all the hottest makeup brands, two espresso bars, a gelato bar and the Marketplace Café (a cafeteria-style restaurant), and you have one incredible department store.

ORIGINS ORGANICS COLLECTION
$15 - $42.50

At the end of 2007, Origins released Origins Organics, the first full line of U.S.-based skin, body and hair care products certified according to USDA standards. This line features all-natural organic ingredients, so if you are conscious of what you put on your skin, this new line is for you. Organic producers help to reduce practices that harm soil, deplete nonrenewable resources or harm air and water quality. All good things. And the collection has something for everyone—SMART loves the Conditioning Hair Oil and the Purifying Face Tonic, a gentle toner full of good stuff like Organic Lavender Alcohol, Organic Vinegar and Organic Willow Bark, a source of natural salicylic acid. When you’re looking for skin, body and hair care products, you have so many choices—Origins is giving us an organic choice.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum
Sephora $42

Most of us cleanse and moisturize, but we should all think about adding a serum to our regimen. One problem: Serums can be fairly pricey, depending on their ingredients. A good, basic serum usually contains antioxidants and other vitamins, one of the most important being vitamin C, which helps to protect skin from free radicals and other skin contaminants. Ole Henriksen’s Truth Serum is a great option for people who want to benefit from a serum without breaking the bank. Besides containing anti-oxidants and anti-aging ingredients, Truth Serum also packs a wallop with free radical-fighting vitamin C. Combine this with the wallet-friendly price and you can’t go wrong.
