A Slice Of Island Life

Chief photographer Nathalie Walker has been shooting MidWeek covers for 12 years - in fact, the vast majority of covers during that time - many of them quite memorable, including this week’s shot of Joe Moore. But when asked about her favorite photos, she came up with only candid shots. (from top left, clockwise) “Buffalo Keaulana at Makaha, a classic shot of the maestro in his element ... I was at Ala Moana Center, and a man in a wheelchair stared at the motorcycle poster for maybe 10 minutes. Was he dreaming of riding that bike? ... A group of happy Marines… This was at Windward Mall. I love the little guy’s air of confidence going up against a bigger guy. It’s timeless, almost out of the ‘50s ... As the police officer’s face attests, it was painfully loud when the little boy hit the siren button.”

As Nathalie says, “What I try to do with every photo is capture a slice of Island life.”
