Locally owned clothing company Barefoot League has opened its first store on Oahu, offering its popular T-shirts (with the design of a foot with the Hawaiian Islands as the toes) for men and women, tank tops and accessories as well as merchandise from other designers such as Fumanchu, Alpine Stars, Metal Mulisha, Analog, Revolver, Sweetees, Reef and Cobian.

“I started Barefoot League as a hobby about six years ago,” says owner Jacky Buder, a 1989 graduate of Kaimuki High and former world champion bodyboarder. “And then I got sick, so it was put on the back burner. But we’ve gotten such a big response it just started to take off, so we decided to push this.”

Buder describes Barefoot League as a brand that represents the active local lifestyle. Throughout the store are sports memorabilia from local athletes, including a baseball bat from Benny Agbayani, shoes worn by Natasha Kai in the World Cup, helmets from NFL pros Chris Maafala and Maa Tanuvasa, shoes from decathlete Bryan Clay and a racquet from former racquetball world champion Egan Inoue.

The new Barefoot League store is located at 880 Kapahulu Ave. (near the new Safeway store). For more information, call 734-0200 or visit www.barefootleague.com
