Melissa Jackson, owner of Hot Mama Maternity in Kaimuki, offers not only the best brands and designer fashions for new and soon-to-be moms, but also donates all profits from her store to a different charity each month.

“One of my goals with Hot Mama Maternity was to donate to the issues and causes that interest me, most notably taking care of women and children in Hawaii,” explains Jackson, who took over ownership of the store earlier this year. “The immediate goal is to cover store expenses, including rent, utilities, merchandise and salaries, and - although our bookkeeper thinks I’m crazy - to donate all profits. With the economy in such a flux, we are taking it slowly; but hopefully each shopper can be assured they will look good, and it will be for a good cause.”

In July, the store donated its profits to Hale Kipa, and in August to Cancer Recovery Foundation of America to assist Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children.

Hot Mama Maternity offers a great selection of baby items and maternity wear, as well as a huge assortment of nursing bras.

Brands include Bravado, Bella Materna, Ripe, Citizens of Humanity, Japanese Weekend and Chiarakruza. Baby-line brands include Dwell Baby, Coral & Polyp, Koko Bean-Organic and Happy Green Bee-Organic.

The store also carries a variety of locally based designs and products such as fashions by Leighlani Maternity and jewelry by Noelani Designs.

“When I purchased Hot Mama Maternity from the previous owner, my vision was to expand the selection of merchandise as well as provide an outlet for giving back to the community,” says Jackson, who has a 1-year-old son named Jackson with husband Skip.

“Our first step was to add baby items to the ever-growing selection of maternity wear. We try to support locally based designs and products, and we are always on the lookout for organic and green products to enhance both our maternity and baby collections.”

Hot Mama Maternity is located at 3435 Waialae Ave. #106A (behind town restaurant).
