Hui Makaala presents its 36th annual Scholarship Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel’s Hawaii Ballroom.

On stage will be fashions by Oyako, Calista by Cotton Cargo, and Betsey Johnson.

Oyako, which translates to mother and child, is owned and operated by award-winning designer Vicki Yamagami Ragasa and her daughter Jaime Ragasa Hittelman. Their garments feature a touch of East meets West with Asian embellished styles in contemporary designs.

On Oahu, the Oyako line can be found at Calista by Cotton Cargo, Craft Flair, Halekulani Hotel, Nui Mono and Vue Hawaii.

Calista, which is Greek for “most beautiful woman” or “beauty beyond the ordinary,” carries a large selection of women’s clothing and accessories from casual to formal in petite to plus-size.

Located at Kahala Mall and Ward Warehouse, Calista by Cotton Cargo has become a popular choice for special occasions, including weddings for brides and bridal parties.

Betsey Johnson, famed New York designer and Fashion Walk of Fame inductee, brings to the runway her trademark “sexy silhouettes, hippie-inspired flowing fabrics, whimsical detailing and, most importantly, a fabulous fit.”

In the fashion business since the 1960s, Betsey Johnson is known for her “celebration of the exuberant, the embellished, and the over the top.”

“The purpose of the fashion show is to raise money for the scholarships awarded to high school seniors seeking higher education,” says Liz Teruya, event chair. “Our organization is constantly impressed and proud with the quality, determination and talent of all of the applicants dating back to its inception in 1947.”

Tickets to the Hui Makaala Scholarship Fund Luncheon and Fashion Show are still available at $50 per seat. For more information, call Lilian Miyao at 387-2451 or Liz Teruya at 741-6364.
