Functional yet flattering — that’s the concept behind Hula-la! by Hawaiian Hula Girl, a local swimsuit company developed by Erika Ireland (pictured at right), a University of Hawaii Richardson School of Law graduate and practicing attorney who grew up in San Diego and on Maui.

“Originally, because I surf and swim and was active with water sports, I always wanted suits that fit well,” says Ireland, a former swimwear model. “So I started designing swimsuits that were functional and that also enhanced my figure.

“All of our suits are double-lined, and they have a soft, luxurious feel. Our 2006 Hula-la! line features custom-designed island inspired prints, beautiful colors and loads of mix-andmatch options. The new line also includes the Pearl Collection, a more embellished and upscale line with the same great fit. Another exciting addition is our hand-crocheted cover-ups that are dyed to match the swimwear.”
