Tested and approved. There’s nothing worse than spending your hard-earned money on something that only ends up in the back of your closet, bottom of your drawer, and eventually forgotten about. Every December, the crew at MidWeek share some of their favorite things. We’ve tried it, we use it, and we love it. And we think you would too. “I use the Sugar Blossom Hand Treatment by Fresh several times a day as I am always testing recipes and have to wash my hands constantly,” says columnist Diana Helfand. “It’s a great preventative formula that really protects my hands. I love the delicious aroma which comes from citrus extracts, flower acids, sal seed butter and real sugar. It’s kind of a combination of aromatherapy and hand cream!”

Carol Chang’s favorite non-work outfit is T-shirt and shorts. And since Kupa’aina (her son Kevin’s band) was born, that’s the shirt she grabs on weekends. “Loosely translated, Kupa’aina means simple island people,” she says. “And the phrase on the back - If can, can; If no can, no can - has been a local motto for years.”

As for Jo McGarry’s style secret, it’s her hairdresser Paul Brown. “He’s the most talented hairdresser in Hawaii - and sometimes tough to get an appointment with, but it’s always worth the effort,” she says. “It’s the single biggest thing that makes a difference im how I look - and feel - and whenever I leave the salon I have an extra spring in my step! I love his hair products too - particularly the shampoo and conditioners. They are some of the best on the market and use natural ingredients from Hawaii.”

So, next time you’re at the mall, check out some of our favorite things.Who knows, it may just end up being one your favorites too.

And next week it’s the MidWeek guys’ turn.
