Hometown: Waipahu

High School: Waipahu High School

Musical occupation: Producer, musician, artist manager and entrepreneur

How did you get into music? I come from a musical family. My dad and two younger brothers are musicians, and my mom is our No. 1 fan. While I was growing up, my parents were very supportive of what we did, whether it was playing in the school band or in the noisy, heavy-metal garage band. I learned to play the saxophone in the sixth grade, but then started picking up other instruments while in middle and high school, like the guitar, bass and drums. I also got my first four-track recorder at this time. I figured music was what I wanted to do, so after high school I went to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Mass. I graduated with a degree in music business management and went straight to work in New York City with top record producers and companies. I learned a lot during my time in the Big Apple. I then moved back to Hawaii in 2004. I worked for a local record label, joined a pretty cool band and also started producing music for my own label, Pass Out Records.

What is your job description with Pass Out Records? Co-founder, president and producer

What’s new or upcoming with Pass Out Records?

There’s always something cooking at Pass Out Records. This year I’m looking forward to putting out new albums by Abe Lagrimas, Jr., Max Murdoch and Mr. Habuteru. We just recently released the Bop Tribal CD! They’re an amazing Hawaii-based jazz group you should check out. I’m also expanding our artist roster and working with some fresh hip-hop and acoustic artists.

Any ongoing or upcoming gigs with Pimpbot?

Pimpbot continues to play around town as well as enjoying some new collaborations with several performing artists. Check out the band’s myspace for more info (http://www.myspace.com/pimpbot). March 2009 also marks the band’s eighth anniversary. We also are excited to be one of a handful of Hawaii artists to perform at the prestigious South By Southwest (SXSW) Music Festival in Austin, Texas, this March. South By Southwest coincides with our Muy Caliente West/Southwest Tour. We love going on tour and sharing our music!

Is there another album in the works?Yes, a new album is in the works. Come out to a show and get a sneak peek at some of the new songs.
