Just as Santa brings presents, most albums bring a CD release party - and the band James Ronstadt and the Dynamic Shuffle Kings is no exception.

The party for its new self-titled release is happening Dec. 20 from 8 p.m. to midnight at Indigo, but you can catch a sneak peek tomorrow night (Dec. 6) when the guys take the Indigo stage for a late-night dinner session.

The members - James Ronstadt (vocals and har-monica), Rick Baldwin (guitar), James Ganeko (drums) and Gil Farias (bass) - all worked to produce the album, which released in September. It features 13 tracks that were hand-picked by the band from the 17 songs they recorded.

“Doing the CD brings you closer as a band, and it was a great project because we all produced it and had a say on how everything was done,” says Ronstadt. “It’s also opened a few doors for us. If anything else, it’s something documented that you can listen to 20-30 years from now.”

The CDs are currently on sale at Harry’s Music and Diamond Head Cove. And the songs they picked for the album are a mix of covers and originals (Down In Vegas, No One Else To Turn To, Best Luvin’ and Blood Sausage) - all what they consider to be the “crowd pleasers.”

Walking The Dog is always a crowd favorite, and Walking To My Baby is also a crowd favorite, and so is Down In Vegas. Vegas actually has a very ‘60s kind of a feel. That’s really where I got that groove from.”

The guys have been performing together for the past five years, but each has his own musical resume that reflects decades of experience. The group, which describes its music as old school, blues R&B and swing, also will perform at Live from the Lawn Jan. 2 at the Hawaii State Art Museum.
