How did you get into music?

Like most musicians, music got into me. My father, John G. Alo,had this Ibanez nylon acoustic guitar stashed away in the closet and I used to mess with it every chance I got. He was so supportive of me as I was learning to figure chords by ear and even condoned staying up late on school nights where I would sit there figuring out how to play Bob Marley’s entire discography from African Herbsman to Confrontation - I wouldn’t stop until I had it all down. Once I had the chords locked, I then made sure that the baselines and solos were a part of my arsenal. I am also a big fan of the blues and old school R&B but roots music is the vessel which I feel is conducive and in harmony with the human heartbeat. Its issues and messages can therefore be permeated from the strongest yet softest tissue of the human structure.

What instruments do you play? Takamine Santa Fe Acoustic/Electric, American Deluxe Fender Strat and an eight-string Kamaka Ukulele.

What’s your musical style and sound?

Slow tempo Roots Reggae. Consciousness is a must. There’s a lot of acoustic influence directly resulting from me serving in the Air Force for nine years and never being able to hold down steady bands of musicians. I was always on the move, so I was and still am solo. Acoustic guitar is pure and it has been my companion for all these years ... but mainly it’s portable and fits well in military aircrafts and helos so hence the large acoustic influence in my album, Answer Your Calling.

Where can you be spotted? June 20 - KHON Morning Show at 6 a.m., 21 June - Live with The IONZ at Tropical Cafe Smoothies at 8 p.m. June 24 - Acoustic at rRed Elephant at 6:30 p.m. July 2 - Live with The IONZ at Boardriders at 10 p.m.

What are your goals musically? I plan to push out my sound in Europe more before centralizing in the Islands.A few performances are already in the works in London,Belgium,France and Italy. My sophomore album, Orchid Unknown, will also be recorded before the end of the year in Italy. Long term, world touring, recording and simply being a blessing to others.
