Hometown:

Kailua

Age:

I turn 21 again every weekend

Profession:

I’m a professional radio disc jockey and emcee.

Start in Music:

I used to DJ while in college, on the radio and in a few local nightclubs. My first professional job in the industry was as studio manager for the Gila Monster Music Factory in Hollywood.

Gigs/Promotions:

I host the afternoon drive show Maleko’s Room on Star 101.9, Hawaii’s New Music Alternative station. I’m on the air from 2 to 7 p.m. every week-day. And I’ve been the emcee for a ton of rock shows in Hawaii, including Surf Fest, Band Camp and major artists like My Chemical Romance, Hawthorne Heights, Hatebreed, All American Rejects, 3 Doors Down, 311 and Hoobastank.

Clubs you can be spotted at:

When I’m not hosting concerts, I work with local promoters to host some of Hawaii’s hottest nightclub events, like Skyline, Osake, O Lounge and Longhi’s. I also make the rounds hosting military parties at Kemoo Farms, Tropics and Kahuna’s Sports Bar. You might also spot me having a Bacardi mojito at the Sheraton Pool Party or sharing a bottle of Grey Goose at Pearl.

Favorite genre of music:

I have a schizophrenic ear. I erase and reload my iPod a few times a month. I remember a teacher saying once that I was “highly impressionable,” and I think this applies most to my music tastes. Obviously, I love alternative rock, emo and grunge. But I grew up in Hawaii, so I’ve got a taste for hip-hop. My dad’s love of folk and jazz music fits my mood sometimes, as does my stepdad’s classical music tastes. My brother’s musical influence has left an impression on me too. I’m a big fan of electroclash and house music.

Contact Info:

I come with the radio station to most events, or for appearances you can call Naz at ADR Agency. The number is 842-1313.
