Aka: Parlous

Age: 21

Musical occupation:

I do a lot of recording. Anything from R&B, alternative, emo, but with my own hip-hopness. But I record other artists at my home and I am currently in the process of attending school in Orlando to grab one of those recording arts degrees and music business degrees. I hear it can help with what I want to do.

How did you get into the music business?

I always had a passion for music and art. And me growing up in the inner city of L.A. I was exposed to a lot of writing and a very diverse mix of music. And seeing how I loved rhyming, I started building my knowledge of the whole history and gained a sort of respect for it. We all love something to a degree of passion, mine is just hip-hop. I love the feeling of one person vibing to something you’ve created. I had a hunger and I’m still trying to hit the spot.

Where can you be spotted performing?

In the shower most of the time- my neighbors hate me. Naw, but for real, anywhere from O Lounge, rRed Elephant, Next Door, you name it. Also every Sunday night at 8 at the Cyphers. It’s basically a big number of us getting together under the freeway right by the Ice Palace, we all just goof around, listen to each other’s music, freestyle and battle. We call it our church. (laughs)

What is your signature style?

I try to keep it clean and completely honest. I do a lot of weird off-the-wall topics like My Favorite Ex-Girlfriend featuring Nabahe and produced by Cali producer Brycon, and Just Because I’m Not Pretty produced by my homie and the producer of my soon-to-be-released EP Your Mom’s Favorite Rapper. But I try and bring energy and aggression to the table. I’m just me.

Upcoming projects?

My upcoming CD, Your Mom’s Favorite Rapper EP and another untitled album due out in a while. (laughs)
