Cupid will be working overtime this Valentine’s Day; after all the arrows are gone, he’ll be at all Ticketmaster locations helping to get all the lovers and romantics tickets for the 2008 Hawaii Romance Festival happening May 2 to 11.

Tickets for all four public events go on sale Feb. 14, and that means four lovable opportunities to spend a romantic evening among some of the most well-known local, national and international entertainers.

On Sunday, May 4, celebrate International Music Night at the Waikiki Shell. Here, romance goes international with the incredible Latin rhythms of Sergio Mendes and his band combining with the Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawaii. They will be joined by Hawaii’s Amy Hanaiali’i, Martin Nievera, Jake Shimabukuro and Korean star Kim Bum Soo. Tickets are $25 for lawn seating, $65 and $95 for terrace seating and $150 for premium seating.


On Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8, the Hawaii Theatre will host “The Most Romantic Songs Ever Written Part 2,“at 7:30 p.m. Hosted once again by one of America’s most romantic couples, Nick and Nina Clooney, these concerts are a continuation of the wonderful Broadway-style show that premiered last year at the Hawaii Theatre. Tony Award-winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, Jimmy Borges, Matt Catingub, Anita Hall, Glenn Medeiros and others will be taking the stage to perform the next “20 Most Romantic Songs Ever Written"as voted on by a survey of members of the music industry. Tickets are $25 for balcony seating, $65 for loge seats, and $95 for orchestra seating and prime loge seats.

On Friday, May 9, at the Waikiki Shell is “Back to Romance,“featuring the legendary Smokey Robinson. This romantic evening also will celebrate Hawaii’s best selling Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawaii’s Back To Romance album. Joining Maestro Catingub on stage will be Robert Cazimero, Cecilio and Kapono, Eric Gilliom, Nathan Aweau and Barry Flanagan of HAPA, Kaukahi and many others. Tickets are $25 for lawn seating, $65 and $95 for terrace seating, and $150 for premium seating.


Saturday, May 10, is “The Rhythm of Romance,” with two shows at 2 and 7:30 p.m.at the Blaisdell Arena.Superstar Gladys Knight, soul singer Aaron Neville and American Idol‘s Kimberley Locke will join with Island musicians from the Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawaii and other vocalists for this second installation of “The Rhythm of Romance.” Tickets are $35 for upper balcony seats, $65 lower balcony seating, $95 for floor, risers and loge seating, and $150 for premium floor and riser seating.
