Aka: IKON

Age: 32

High School: Moanalua High School ‘93

Music Profession: DJ/Promoter/Radio Mixshow Host/Music Reviewer/Writer. I’m co-promoter for Hawaii’s The Love Festival, I’m a writer/music reviewer for HYPE Hawaii Magazine and I am a weekly DJ residency/radio mixshow co-host on Underground Sounds Show at KTUHFM.

Musical accomplishments: DJ since ‘92. I released very limited and exclusive mixed CDs for promotional use. And fall ‘95 I officially became a part of the roster for illeven:eleven recordings (one of America’s leading Breakbeat record labels) and Future Sound of Breaks (America’s largest Breakbeat/Electro/Bass production/promotion companies). I have been featured on lineups in Oahu, Maui, Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, Virginia and Miami. I have played at almost every major club/event here in Hawaii. And I have had my mixes featured on House Nation at Hot 93.9. I also have had my mixes featured on Tampa, Florida’s radio mixshow X-Factory at Wild 98.7 FM (hosted by Malicious Mike).

How did you get into DJing? I inherited money after my father passed away and invested in DJ gear. I started off as mobile DJ, then progressed into clubs, then evolved into the promoter/DJ I am today. I started off as a hip-hop DJ, then cultured myself into electronic dance music.

Any ongoing gigs? My current residences include Get Fresh at Indigo, Underground Sounds Show at KTUH, and The Love Festival (July 21 at Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park)

Musical inspiration: My father, Peter Cadiz Galinato. Also inspired by favorite DJs/producers/artists: Richard Vission, Bad Boy Bill, Frankie Bones, DJ Fixx and Angel Alanis.

Goals musically? To get more out-of-state bookings and to produce and remix with my favorite producer, DJ Fixx of Bottom-End Records, Bottom Essentials.
