Age: 24

Hometown: Honokaa

Music Profession: I’m the owner of the record label Rubbah Slippah Productions; I’m the producer and I’m also an artist. I just started my own company and we put out our first CD, Big Island Music, last year. We’re releasing the new compilation CD RSP Crew, Volume One (on March 6) with multiple artists.

Musical accomplishments: Being able to work with all my local idols like Fiji, Damon, Mana’o Company. Pretty much everybody at some point because I was playing bass. And the other big thing is with this compilation album - it’s a lot like the stepping stone for a lot of these new artists.

Upcoming projects:

I’m about halfway through with my follow-up solo album, and I’m working on the next RSP Crew compilation album already. And I’m also working on Maelan Abran’s solo album. She was on Hawaii Stars a little while back.

How much of your music is original?

I write pretty much all the music. My CD, I wrote the whole CD and produced everything. This new one (RSP Crew, Volume One) I wrote most of the songs, with the exception of three or four, and the only cover song we did is this song So Sick. The reason is we actually did it as a demo and it ended up coming out really good, so we just put it on. Actually one of the stations here (Big Island) is already playing it.

How did you get into music? By accident. Actually in the seventh grade they put me in band instead of Japanese, which everyone else had to take. So I got thrown in there randomly, and I ended up choosing bass. I stuck with it, and now I’ve got my degree and I’m pretty much doing it as a profession.

What’s your favorite genre of music? My favorite is R&B. The album is local island reggae. My next album is going to change a little in style and go more toward the local R&B sound.
