If fire, Polynesian culture and great music are your thing, Te Vaka, a dynamic 10-piece rock group from New Zealand, has your ticket to a good time.

They’ll be making their way through the Pacific next week Saturday (Oct. 25) for an explosive show at Pipeline Cafe.

Pegged as one of New Zealand’s hottest cultural exports, the group has been touring the globe since 1997 performing for sold-out crowds. The show is a rich, luscious mix of Polynesian traditional culture accented with the modern world.

The award-winning group has taken home honors such as two BBC World Music Awards - Best Asia Pacific and the Audience Choice Award, and most recently at the 2008 Pacific Music Awards the group took home the Best Pacific Album for Olatia, Best Pacific Group, Best International Song and Best Live Performance at the 28th Australian Songwriting Association Awards.

The band was brought together by Opetaia Foa’i, songwriter and lead vocalist of the group. Described as one of New Zealand’s finest songwriters, his musical background spans both the traditional and the diverse influences of contemporary metropolitan culture.

This trip is the group’s fourth visit to the Islands, having previously performed at Kapono’s, World Cafe, Waikiki Shell and Leeward Community College.

At next Saturday’s all-ages event, doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets cost $25 general admission and $40 VIP. For tickets, call Honolulu Box Office at 550-8457, or visit www.honoluluboxoffice.com.
