PAL RICHARD BURGI here over the weekend filming Knight Rider at Turtle Bay. Richard starred as Teri Hatcher’s ex in 33 episodes of Desperate Housewives. We became friends when he co-starred with Cheryl Ladd in One West Waikiki. I was the associate producer of the CBS series that was filmed in Hawaii.
Fun fact ... Glen Larson created Knight Rider and One West Waikiki.
Hot, Hot , Hot! Beach 5, led by former Hoonua leader Christian Yrizarry, tore it up last week as special guests at the Mai Tai Rumble. This week they are guests of the Tahitian government, performing there for Tahiti’s big canoe race, Hawaiki Nui Va’a. With canoe racing considered Tahiti’s national sport, this race would be comparable to our World Series. Beach 5’s first concert will be prior to the start of the race Tuesday on Huahine, then before the second leg of the race on Raiatea on Wednesday, and after the finale Friday, Oct. 31, is the championship concert on Bora Bora. A bit of history ... In his first show here in 1971, the relatively unknown Brit draws about half the house. The following year, his concert sells out. In 1973 he does two SRO shows, and by this week the demand for tickets is feverish. Just seven days earlier, in order to get show No. 3 on sale, I take my shortest ever trip to L.A. Remember, this is before computer tickets or overnight freight service. I catch an early flight to LAX to meet the printers and return that same evening with the precious tickets in hand. They go on sale the next day at the Blaisdell Box Office ...
