This week in 1968: Ravi Shankar performs at the HIC Concert Hall and plays only four songs on his world-renowned sitar. But Honolulu Star-Bulletin reviewer Phil Mayer notes that the songs run about 25 minutes each! I remember bringing a vegetarian meal from Trader Vic’s at the corner of Ward and King to the star prior to the concert.

Fun Fact: It would be 38 years later that I would present his daughter Norah Jones in the arena.

The No. 1 record in Hawaii in 1968 is Love Is Blue by The Paul Mauriat Orchestra.
