Seen over at Mala Wailea @ the Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa were Willie Nelson and Zooey Deschanel with boyfriend Ben Gibbard. Veteran actors Richard Chamberlain and Madsen also joined the table to enjoy the buffet and Maui’s own Ocean Vodka martinis. “It was a fun party,” says Mala partner Shep Gordon. “It was a little bit of Hollywood right here on Maui” ... A. PINEDA RETURNS WITH THE BLACK EYED PEAS ... That caught my attention when scanning their traveling name list. But of course that would be Apl Pineda, not Arnel of Journey. Apl returns Aug. 16 with the Grammy Award-winning Black Eyed Peas at BayFest! Both Arnel and Apple are originally from the Philippines .... Any relation? ...


 

Hawaii favorites Hiroshima in town this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at Level 4 in Waikiki. Michael Paulo will guest star to make it a really special evening of jazz. Ticket info: 550-8457 ...

This week in 1966: I spend three nights with Them and Van Morrison. The first night is at the Waikiki Shell with the Ramsey Lewis Trio.

Fun Fact: Ramsey’s drummer is Maurice White, who would form Earth, Wind & Fire three years later ... The second night the Poi Boys present “Direct From England In Person ... Dance With Them” at the HIC Exhibition Hall. The third night it’s on to the Garden Island to present the first rock ‘n’ roll concert in the new Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall. All three nights the crowds thrill to the Them mega-hit G-L-O-R-I-A ... GLORIA ...
