This week in 1997: Hawaii’s new radio station107.9FM presents it first “Oldies” concert, “A Million Dollar Party,” featuring The Drifters, Coasters, Shirelles, Crystals, Tokens, Barbara Lewis, Lenny Welch and The Champs at Blaisdell Arena. Dave Donnelly writes the following in his July 17, 1997, column: “The Star-Bulletin‘s Rod Ohira is one of those ‘60s kids who was stoked by the Oldies concert at the Arena Saturday night.
