Julio Iglesias

KUSI, the top-rated TV news station in San Diego, has recently started using Aloha Friday as its end-of-the-week sign-off music ...

In April of 1983, my good friend Dick Alen, senior agent with William Morris, asked if I would present a relatively unknown singer in Hawaii. I cautiously agreed to one evening at the Concert Hall when the manager of a major hotel, who happened to be a fan, donated the hotel rooms. As luck would have it, J. Akuhead Pupule, reigning king of morning radio, began playing his music, too. Lo and behold, we had a sellout - a second show was added, and Julio Iglesias became a cherished friend. Now, in 2010, when Alen called about a return engagement, I readily agreed. I can’t wait: Julio at Blaisdell Concert Hall, Saturday, March 13 - 27 years and a few million records/CDs later, and this time around Julio will be playing his first concert ever on Maui at the MACC’s Castle Theater ...

Fun fact: Julio has collected 2,600 platinum and gold records and has performed more than 5,000 concerts in 600 cities around the world ...

This week in 1987: The Moody Blues perform at Blaisdell Arena. The first time I brought them to Hawaii was Jan. 27-28, 1974. Backstage this time around, lead singer Justin Hayward mentions that he wrote their classic rock ballad, Nights In White Satin, in four or five minutes!
