IT WAS A REAL surprise when Jackson Browne came up and said hi at the recent Ozomatli Concert at Pipeline Cafe. Later in the evening the crowd went wild when he joined the group on stage for their final two songs. I’ve known Jackson since June 18, 1972, when he appeared with Joni Mitchell at the Waikiki Shell. Joni had called a couple of weeks before and asked if she could bring a comparatively unknown singer along to open her concert.

The crowd that night loved Browne, especially when he sang his brand new record release Doctor My Eyes. Twenty years later, Jackson, along with Crosby, Stills & Nash and Bonnie Raitt, with special guests Jimmy Buffett and the Pahinui Brothers, helped us raise half a million dollars with the Iniki Benefit Concerts Nov. 8 and 9, 1992, in Blaisdell Arena ...

Chris Brown also was in town with various NFL players. They were here supporting the Kemoeatu Brothers Foundation football camp charity kickoff for keiki in Kahuku and Honolulu. Chris’ message to the kids? Stay positive and stay in school. Brothers Chris Kemoeatu (Pittsburgh Steelers) and Ma’ake Kemooetu (Carolina Panthers) started the foundation to give back to the children of Hawaii ...
