PARROTHEADS REJOICE … Jimmy Buffett is doing fine after a nasty fall recently from a stage in Sydney, Australia, as he finished his final encore. He paused here for a couple of days last week en route home. Over lunch at Jimmy Buffett’s at the Beachcomber, he told me that doctors had given him a clean bill of health and that he’s looking forward to kicking off his 2011 “Welcome To Fin Land” tour April 16 in Tampa, Fla. … Fun Fact: As the Buffett luck would have it, one of the Parrotheads sitting in the front row turned out to be the head of the trauma center at a major Sydney hospital …

And a big farewell to an iconic spot on Ward Avenue: Hibiscus, which has been the neighborhood bar for 30-plus years, has shut its doors. I’ll miss the steak and mushrooms! Happy fishing days ahead to the newly retired owner Bobby

Spotted: Japanese actress and TV personality Megumi Yokoyama doing some shopping at Muumuu Heaven in Kailua … Fun fact: Muumuu Heaven’s overwhelming popularity with Japanese clients led to the opening of a second store in September 2009 about an hour south of Tokyo, beachside in the Shichirigahama district near Kanagawa …


Capt. Jack Sparrow must love our waters. It’s rumored that Johnny Depp could be returning for another Pirates of the Caribbean film. The latest, On Stranger Tides, part of which was filmed here, is set for release May 20 …

Elton John 1971

Elton’s 40th! His first concert here was 40 years ago, and he’s returning this month, Feb. 24 and 25, to the Maui Arts and Cultural Center’s newly designed A&B Amphitheater. I remember that first Elton John concert very well … it was exciting, and two of his original musicians from 1971, Nigel Olsson on drums and Davey Johnstone on guitar, will join him for the anniversary. Maui, get ready to rock like a croc! …

A big congrats to Owen Wilson and girlfriend Jade Duell, who welcomed new son Robert Ford Wilson a few weeks ago … What better place to deliver a baby than here in Hawaii?
