Nice story: Back in 1992, Halau Hula O Maiki was invited to perform in Sendai, Japan, and later that year was gifted with five large tanabata lanterns from Sendai. Over the years the halau and folks in Sendai, hard hit by the March 11 tsunami, have stayed in touch. As it happens, when the halau has its concert Memorial Day - St. Francis School in Manoa, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. - guests will include several students from Sendai. And those same lanterns will be on display, says kumu Coline Aiu ...
