MICHELLE WIE MAKES her Blaisdell Arena debut this Saturday ... as a member of the Punahou graduating class of 2007. Congratulations!

Hawaii favorites Ozomatli, on tour with concerts in Cairo, Beirut and Jordan, may be heading this way for a special Halloween gig.

What a party band! Their new release, Don’t Mess With The Dragon, is one of 20 CDs featured in Starbuck’s locations across the country. Good going, guys ...

A new CD called Instant Karma features a galaxy of artists including Hawaii’s Jack Johnson, Green Day, U2, Black Eyed Peas, Lenny Kravitz, Avril Lavigne and Christina Aguilera performing classic John Lennon songs. I can’t wait to hear Jack’s rendition of Imagine. Due in stores June 12, the proceeds go to the campaign to save Darfur ...

Speaking of Lennon, a song that Kenny Rankin will perform at his June 22 concert at Mamiya Theatre is Blackbird, penned by Paul McCartney and Lennon. Paul was so impressed by Kenny’s recording of the song that he asked him to represent the former Beatles when they were inducted into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame ...

This week in 1969: Jimi Hendrix makes his Waikiki Shell debut with two concerts scheduled for Friday and Saturday nights. The Friday night show is riddled with technical problems as the Shell’s power supply isn’t capable of running both the venue lights and Jimi’s state-of-theart sound system. Jimi keeps looking back at us, and eventually comes backstage to say, “Man, I can’t continue, it’s not fair to my fans ...”

Noting that he had performed for over an hour, I reply, “Jimi, all you have to do is go out and say good night and everybody will be happy.” “No, man, I can’t do that,” he insists. He walks out to the stage and tells everyone to come back on Sunday night ...

Well, everybody’s been partying and many have lost their ticket stubs. A lot are GIs being shipped out, too. It’s pure pandemonium - but Jimi comes back on Sunday to give a great concert, and we pretty much let everyone in who says they were there on Friday! Gotta love the ‘60s, man ...

The No. 1 record in Hawaii is Get Back by the Beatles.
