Calling all hula dancers! Ami over to Aloha Festivals 2007‘s Waikiki’s Longest Hula Line - last held in 1996 and documented in the Guinness Book of World Records for having 3,500 hula dancers on the beach at Waikiki. This year, the goal is to have 5,500 hula dancers participate, as this event only occurs every 10 years. This historic moment will be held on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m., from the beach fronting the Hilton Hawaiian Village to Queen’s Surf. For more information, call 589-1771…

Longtime Hawaii resident Ron Hudson is ready to debut his latest 144-page hardcover book of portraits, Jazz Images. It’s a contribution of jazz history in words and pictures taken over 34 years, photographing nearly 700 artists at 550 concerts for a total of 660 hours of jazz! One of my favorite concert posters was designed by Ron when I presented ballet superstar Rudolf Nureyev in April of 1981 at the Waikiki Shell. I’m truly looking forward to this book - in stores Sept. 21 - published by Rick Carroll, author of those great Spooky Tales books ...
