Sandra Park

A novella by Sandra Park (Kailua 1966) comes out soon from Mutual Publishing. If You Live in a Small House is about the life of a large family crammed into a little home in pre-statehood Kailua, and it’s earning big reviews. Reading it is like standing in Keaniani Lane after dark, peeking through the windows to the ‘funny kine house’.”

Old photos from Kailua Historical Society archives and elsewhere add to the mood ... If you missed Waimanalo’s Relay for Life, the Kailua/Kaneohe one kicks off Saturday night at Kailua High School, with Howard Dashefsky as emcee (see calendar). Al Lewis reports that the ‘Nalo effort raised more than $22,000 to fight cancer ...

Robert Merriam invites everyone to Emmanuel Episcopal Church’s 50th anniversary this weekend (see calendar).

“We will delve into the past, open the time capsule we installed 25 years ago, and look to a bright and exciting future.” Now on Keolu Drive, the church began with services at Maunawili Elementary, moved to Kodama store by Castle hospital, and then settled in Enchanted Lake ...

Among 7,000 delegates at the national Health Occupations Students of America conference in Orlando, Fla., last month, Castle High’s Kimiyo Lindley placed fifth on “Knowledge Test: Nutrition” amid rigorous competition ...
