Kailua environmental and art photographer Susan Benay will exhibit scenic photos she took while on the now-infamous Aug. 26 inaugural voyage of Hawaii Superferry in a two-week show at The Art Board on Nuuanu Avenue in Chinatown. “My wife has good photo karma,” says Patrick Janow about the beautiful images she captured from her unique ocean perspective (check out www.lanikaisugarco.com/superferrypreview.jpg). Susan had planned two more trips on the Alakai, but that was not to be. One Ferry, One State, One Artist, One Day opens with a reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 1. ...

Sasha already has his costume picked out for the Aloha Cat Fanciers’ Halloween Cat Show Saturday at McCoy Pavilion (261-4354). Did I say “he”? Apparently Kailua resident Joan Harris‘s purebred feline had so much fur at birth it obscured a vital piece of information about himself. So now he’s Mr. Sash to his pals, but his papers say different. Anyhoo, the cats’ costume parade starts at noon, in the middle of a serious cat show with mainland judges. There will be food for humans and cats alike, regardless of sex ... Comedian Dave Lancaster and others share Halloween stories at King Intermediate’s Oct. 30 Read Aloud and Book Fair ...

Reynolds Recycling knows the value of good Kaneohe employees, as it recently added to its Windward team by hiring Castle High graduate (plus degrees from Pepperdine and UH) Derrick Inouye as corporate controller and Claudney “Pu” Iona (Kamehameha and HCC graduate) as director of safety and risk management. State Sen. Jill Tokuda serves as the 26-year-old company’s community relations director ...

Breanna Gouveia and Maggie Compagnoni will be recognized Oct. 31 for their award-winning entries in the 2007 Hawaii Leader for a Day essay contest. The Kailua Intermediate students also get free lunch at Washington Place and will be able to “shadow” a couple of local leaders: Breanna will tag along after Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona, and Maggie gets schools superintendent Pat Hamamoto. Their social studies teacher is Kathleen Nullet ... Happy Birthday to Tisha Falcon Lehfeldt, a lay pastor with husband Jason at Kaneohe’s Mountain View Community Church. Hit party favor at her Oct. 6 bash near Kailua beach, marking her 40th year, was bright red wax lips for all - a trademark look of the vivacious and VERY LOUD friend and counselor to many Windward women and teens over the years ...

Talented (like his big sister Jasmeen) Kailua hunk Sterling Sulieman has landed the new role of Dre on the ABC soap All my Children after a stint with The Bold and The Beautiful and Disney’s High School Musical tour. Dre is described as “a young African-American man whose garage band sets up shop next to the Martin home” ... Yet another faithful flock is worshiping cafeteria-style: New Hope Kailua’s pastor Rick Stinton held his first service at 10 a.m. Sept. 30 in the Kailua High School cafeteria. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, they move to the Kailua Intermediate cafeteria. It must be cafeteria food for the soul ...

Waimanalo’s Maria Ramos will perform Sunday with DeShannon Higa‘s Groove Improv Artists and Tempo Valley at the LushLife Music Festival. It starts at 7 p.m. at rRed Elephant (550-8457) ... Yvonne Yim and Kaneohe’s Kenneth Zeri, president of Hospice Hawaii, took their message to Japan in August, sharing recruiting and training tips with their counterparts in Towada City, followed by some island song and dance. Want to volunteer? Call 924-9255 ... Congratulations to Ahuimanu Elementary’s top student cookie seller, Kahekili Paglinawan, who sold 196 bags of cookies for the Ohana drive. (And I forgot to pick mine up!)
