Do women really need an excuse to buy new clothes? My wife doesn’t seem to be typical - not to stereotype, but she rarely buys new clothes for herself. Naturally, she will spend the equivalent of Paris Hilton’s clothes budget on our kids, but when it comes to herself, she’s pretty frugal.

Not that I’m complaining. I believe there are thousands if not millions of husbands who would like their wives to be more like mine. She manages to look great with the clothes she does have and she has a versatile and classy wardrobe.

In her previous line of work, she was in the medical field, so her wardrobe consisted of those medical uniforms you see nurses and medical assistants wearing. These past few weeks, she’s been asked to cover for our daughter’s parochial school office secretary.

This thrust her into a mode that I’ve rarely seen. She told me she has nothing to wear and that she wants to buy some clothes. I was good with that, although I didn’t realize that a woman cannot wear the same outfit two times in the same month.

That meant she needed something for every day for two weeks. Again, I didn’t have a problem with that until I started seeing some of the outfits she was buying. It was like a scene out of the movie The Devil Wears Prada. She had to be the most stylish temp the school has ever seen.

I teased her saying that the kids at the school, used to seeing nun’s habit attire, must think our daughter’s mom is pretty cool. The other day I had to call her at the school to ask something. As the secretary, I knew she would answer the phone.

“Is this the hot-looking babe school secretary?” I seductively asked. “No, this is one of the nuns, Sister ‘so and so.’” I fell silent, trying to remember if I mentioned my name. The next thing I heard was my wife laughing. Then her voice saying, “You’ve been Punk’d.”
