Often referred to as “paradise on earth,” Hawaii’s diverse production locations and environmental factors make the Islands one of the ideal places to film.

“Hawaii possesses beautiful scenery that can substitute for any number of tropical locations including Africa, South America, the Caribbean and Southeast Asia with the benefit of being on American soil,” McCabe states. “I remember hearing on the DVD commentary track of The Rundown starring the Rock, that they originally planned on filming in the actual Amazon, until the location scouts were mugged,” she recalls. “That made them decide to film in Hawaii.”

With more than 150 filming locations listed on the Hawaiiwood movie location map, contact information for businesses and enlarged maps for the Downtown/Chinatown, Waikiki/Ala Moana and Haleiwa areas also are included. “Must-see” attractions are starred, such as Kualoa Ranch and Kaaawa Valley, which were featured in the movies Tora! Tora! Tora! (1960), Jurassic Park (1993) and Mighty Joe Young (1998) to more recent movies like Pearl Harbor (2001), Blue Crush (2002) and Tears of the Sun (2003). Sea Life Park also has made numerous onscreen appearances in popular movies and TV shows, including The Brady Bunch (1969-1974), Stanford & Son (1972-1977), Full House (1987-1995) and the hit 2004 movie 50 First Dates, featuring Adam Sandler.

“I’m very proud of it,” McCabe says, “and I hope others enjoy what I’ve put together. I see it also as a great reference guide - even capturing some little-known Hawaii history.

“Folks love the different take on exploring Oahu,” she says. “Working with Island Heritage to distribute it, it has made it easy for tourists, locals and those on the Mainland to purchase them, since the maps are available in stores and online.”

Hawaiiwood - Hawaii movie tour maps are now available at Barnes & Noble, Borders and Borders Express locations throughout Hawaii and online at www.welcometotheislands.com (search ‘Hawaii Movie Tour Map’) for $9.99.
